BURLINGTON, ON

Parks and Recreation will open online registration for fall Adult, Youth and pre-season Aquatic Leadership programs beginning Saturday, Aug. 28.

Adult registration will open at 9 a.m. and Youth and pre-season Aquatic Leadership program registration will open at 11 a.m.
Programs will be viewable online at Burlington.ca/recreation on Aug. 20, 2021.

Swimming lessons and additional Aquatic Leadership programming will be announced in September.

All City programs will continue to follow public health guidance when required, including physical distancing, capacity limits and wearing masks or face coverings. Individuals participating in an in-person program will be required to fill out the mandatory health screening form at Burlington.ca/screening before each session.

Chris Glenn, Director of Recreation, Community and Culture said, hopefully: “Another season, another great set of recreation choices for residents to participate in for fun, exercise, learning or social opportunities. Our catalogue of programs is always changing to add new and interesting options on top of our traditional favourites that you’ll see every season.”

    JUST ANNOUNCED ON FACEBOOK
    “Mayor Marianne Meed Ward

Requiring vaccines in health care and school settings is a welcome step. We’re ready to do our part. Our City Manager and Burlington Leadership Team are working on a vaccine policy for staff, in consultation with other municipalities. Vaccines help protect hospital capacity and help keep us open.”

“Working on a vaccine policy”. Should the city not already have a vaccine policy for staff in place? If the city is registering residents for in person activities in city facilities one would have thought that a policy would already have been implemented.

It will be interesting to see how long it takes for “the policy” to be implemented.

” In person programming requires individuals to fill out the mandatory health screen forms before each session”. Are participants being mandated to be fully vaccinated?

Many participants who attended classes before the last shutdown indicated that they filled out the health screening form before each session without actually checking to make certain they were not exhibiting any symptoms.

What is the policy for city employees working at these facilities? Have they been mandated to be fully vaccinated?

In person programs involving seniors and children (under 12 who cannot be vaccinated) need to be in facilities where staff cannot inadvertently expose them to Covid 19, which in turn could expose others to the virus. The same goes for participants.

On CTV news last night the Chief Medical Officer for Ontario indicated that we are going to be in for a difficult fall and winter.
