An observant Gazette reader recalled story we did on the idea that was floated at a Regional council meeting about the hydro towers along the Beachway might be buried.

While out for a walk our reader took the photograph that is shown and added the comment that: ”Can’t see these coming down anytime soon…as new glass insulators are currently being installed.”

She just might be right.

    As far as I can tell, this work started many months ago in the Maple Avenue area. Most readers wouldn’t be aware of the significant costs associated with underground construction of extra high voltage transmission lines. While burying the line is quite expensive, the cable itself presents significant design challenges, and ultra high purchase costs.
