BURLINGTON, ON
Dr.MikeP. Moffatt has a good question.
Why doesn’t the province actually let people build homes? That might help address homelessness.
Moffatt is one of the leading thinkers who runs the Smart Prosperity Institute think tank.
Michael Patrick Moffatt is a Canadian economist and professor of Business, Economics, and Public Policy. He served as director of policy and research at Canada 2020, a progressive Canadian think-tank. He is also an assistant professor at Ivey Business School.
Here is what he passed along earlier today.
Ouch!

Of course, the professor fails to mention that the lack of construction is not entirely a provincial problem. We must remember that the Trudeau government’s vaunted housing initiatives did an “end run” on the provinces by dealing directly with the municipalities (largely for political benefit, although this hasn’t worked). So why haven’t those municipalities built more homes? Sean Fraser likes to claim that the Liberals are building thousands more homes?
I would think if a professor of Business, Economics and Public Policy doesn’t know the answer then no one knows
