Council is being asked to award the tender for New Street bridge replacement at Tuck Creek to Decew Construction Inc., 605 James Street North, Hamilton, ON, L8L 1K1, for $5,861,310.01 including HST.

The New Street Bridge at Tuck Creek is being replaced as part of the recommendations from a Municipal Class Environmental Assessment, for the project area including the Tuck Creek watershed between the Hydro corridor and Lake Ontario. The New Street Bridge Replacement at Tuck Creek project will involve replacing the existing bridge with a wider span concrete bridge structure designed to improve the creek channel hydraulics and increase flow capacity.

The proposed bridge replacement is scheduled to begin in July 2025 and is anticipated to be completed by Fall 2026.

Bids that vary 100% suggest a problem with either bid list development or with the actual tender requirements. Are these evaluated bid numbers or raw quotes?

Is that not the exact stretch of road that has ust been torn up to install a new main sewer? Didn’t that part of Tuck Creek recently undergo a substantial upgrade following the floods whereby it has been widened and the riverbed constructed so as to carry much higher volumes of water? Why then is a bridge rebuild taking place now? Why were these projects undertaken as individual projects and not consolidated into one major project? My immediate thought is that the City Planning Department Is a misnomer since they don’t seem to plan anything properly.
