Busy day in Ottawa this week – our MP should get his chance soon to speak on our behalf.

Our Burlington is seeking credentials for a geography student from McMaster to attend as a journalist who will cover the event for this community.

Parts of the Enbridge pipeline that runs through Burlington are controlled by this sub station on Walkers Line.  Many in the city aren’t convinced that the pipeline is adequately controlled and fear a break or a serious leak in the pipeline.

That Enbridge will get the permit they want is close to a given – the federal government has taken the position that this is a national interest – they want oil in Alberta to get to markets where they can get the best price – nothing wrong with that.  The difficulties with getting oil into the United States along with the difficulties getting oil to the west coast has left the oil companies with just the one direction to go in – east – and that folks is us.

We white people aren’t able to muster the resolve that the Aboriginal community has mounted.  One can argue the right or wrong of the Aboriginal community but you can’t argue against their effectiveness in getting what they want.

We’ve not heard much from our MP on this one either.  One wonders if Wallace has made representations to the National energy Board on behalf of Burlington.  Surely the people in this city deserve to hear from their MP on why the federal government is going to support the application.  Right about now would be a good time for Wallace to hold a public meeting and explain what Ottawa is planning.

Mayor Goldring arranged for Enbridge to come to town and tell their story.  It would have been nice if the Mayor had chosen to say something at the meeting.  There was an opportunity to put forward the city’s concerns but he chose to arrange for the meeting and leave it at that.  Leadership is more than arranging a meeting.

All is not lost yet.  With the changes in the way MP’s get to speak in the House of Commons coming soon – our man in Ottawa will be able to stand up and speak for us.

Right?

“Marvelous MikeWe’ve not heard Wallace speak on either of these locally. His job is to be in Ottawa representing our interests – and that keeps him hopping.”

Have you NOT HEARD about “Marvelous Mike’s” promotion to chair of the parliamentary JUST-US committee?

    OR:

Will you and I have to go “in-camera” to discuss that?
