BURLINGTON, ON

This doesn’t surprise us – the city has imposed a gag order on the swimming clubs.

We reached out to the swimming clubs and people aligned with them for comments.

At the risk of embarrassing someone, we are publishing just a portion of the comment sent back to us.

“At this stage, we ask that all questions be directed to the City, please.”

What happened to transparency and accountability?

again …. “fun to watch” …. WAKE UP Burlington ….. this step only reinforces the concern that this isn’t about protecting a process — it’s about protecting City Hall from accountability. Transparency shouldn’t be optional when public dollars, public assets, and community trust are on the line.
A gag order? Really??? So now the City’s solution to this pool fiasco is to slap duct tape on everyone’s mouth and hope the chlorine clears the air? This isn’t leadership — it’s damage control dressed up as policy. Maybe next they’ll hold meetings underwater so no one can hear the incompetence bubbling to the surface.”

Our mayor and council should be honest and open and inform all Burlington residents as to what was decided between BAD and GHAC Swim Teams to move forward.. And also divulge what errors caused this issue in the first place so it never happens again.
The Statement released by our Mayor is extremely vague and not at all sufficient!!
I hope that Councilor Lisa Kearns is successful in insuring that a full and completely independent Audit is completed in this matter.

    Political interference. How so?
Who exactly are the mayor’s friends?
I am shocked too at the incompetence of the City Administration and the indifference of both senior city staff and council to promptly identify, own and promptly resolve a self-created problem.
Why would either club adhere to a gag order this other than for fear of retaliation?

What lesson has Council learned with this blatant political interference? Secondly as a taxpayer I am shocked at the amount of time and resources that were used to appease the Mayor’s friends
