Fireworks: 'I think it's a GO'

BURLINGTON, ON

Nothing Official yet from City Hall but a reliable Gazette readers sends the following:

“The pier is fenced off & the normal van that is used to transport the fireworks is being unloaded.

“I think it’s a GO.”

That’s all there is at this point.

The province has countless fires, there has been haze due to fires in Burlington and the City decided to continue with fire works!!??
    Shame on them

  • Oh yes and Deputy Mayor’s is the joke the inormed knew it would be.

  • Agree with all of the above particularly the solidarity issues. We are normally up North for Canada Day with our family but could not be there this year. We decided to mask up and go down to Spencer Smith to celebrate with Community families. Never again. The dusk start time was far from accurate and we were all subjected to ear buzzing loud band music where the words were not decipheral until the actual start time 10 pm We hope and pray that Burlington who have signed on to every pledge that is presented get it and next year and forever after their actions speak louder than their words.

    I truly hope it rains
Fireworks terrify my pets, they terrify other pets, and they terrify wildlife!!
Wildlife trying to flee from the noise run into traffic, Moms will abandon nests and leave the babies to die. Birds get disoriented and fly into windows trying to escape the noise.
Immigrants and refugees from war torn countries dealing with PTSD also suffer.
We have wildfires burning in this country, air quality has been horrendous and we are setting off fireworks???

Totally agree Sally. I’m thinking as I hear them going for 20 minutes and counting about the deer and her fawns living downtown. I’m thinking of all the wildlife and birds, I’m thinking of the cities like Niagara Falls that cancelled theirs due to the wildfire smoke. I’m thinking of Vancouver which cancelled them permanently. I’m thinking of Montreal and Quebec City which cancelled them in solidarity with those in the north of the province where fires burn. We have the same here in Ontario.

And though I’ve written to all of council in May about this again and gave them literature on the pollution and the environmental impacts and all the things you cite, they didn’t even respond, except for Lisa, and they’re out there doing this and celebrating. It’s so loud it’s unbelievable. What part of climate emergency don’t they get ? It’s shameful. Rory Nisan is the Deputy Mayor of Environment. Let’s all phone him Tuesday and ask what the point of his mandate is.

Are you (or your pets) a fan/ supporter of the Sound of Music Festival, Sally? Our windows frequently vibrate from the level of noise during this weekend each year, which extends 100 times that of a 12 minute fireworks display. Not that I’m a fan of fireworks which seems like a gross waste of money.

      • We do not understand why it has to be that loud. We have had major construcion at our condo for months at a time and it never bothered us as much as that band last night. It surely must have exceeded the decibel levels allowed. Think of the damage to young ears as well as those like yourself. Sad because sure there is a sound level that works for those who enjoy such without cranking it up as much as they do. We were at the very far end of the park where it would be the quietest one would think We are not allowed Camp fires at our trailer so why are fireworks still permitted.
