Speaking in the House of Commons yesterday Burlington MPP Karina Gould said:
“Mr. Speaker, Canada should be the best place world to be a child and to raise a child.

“On National Child Day, I reflect on the many steps we have taken to make this a reality. We introduced, in the last decade, the Canada child benefit, which has lifted half a million kids out of poverty. We created a national child care program, which is setting our kids up for success and enabling parents to stay in the workforce. We also created of a national school food program that is feeding 400,000 kids in Canada.
“While these are good and necessary steps, there is still so much more we can and must do to provide the best start in life for Canadian children. One such area we need to tackle is the increasing harms our children are facing online, including cyberbullying, exploitation, grooming and AI-generated abuse. Children’s organizations, parents and kids themselves are sounding the alarm.
“Today, let us commit to tackling these new and emerging issues because all of our nation’s kids deserve to live in safety and with every opportunity to build a bright future.”

Under the heading of you can’t make this stuff up, on the same day our MP stands up in Parliament, the US Attorney General announces the FBI is stepping up measures to bring to justice Ryan Wedding, a Canadian Olympic snowboarder who is now one of the biggest drug king pins in the world, raising the bounty to $15 million USD for information on his arrest. His lawyer in Brampton is arrested immediately the next day along with other associates in Canada.
One should ask how do you rise up to such a high level in a Mexican Cartel such as Ryan Wedding. Well you start by controlling distribution in your own country, build and operate drug labs, control the ports for shipment of product out and drug precursors in and; pay off people in government and business. You then launder the money in casinos and real-estate, and conveniently take care of anyone that gets in your way.
One should also ask, where was the RCMP on this, and why did it take the US AG and FBI to initiate such strong action?
So, to our MP, perhaps your government can start protecting our kids by simply doing your job and enforcing the criminal code that exists, pass much stronger RICO laws like exist in the US and ban “safe supply” so that government supplied hydromorphone (synthetic opioid) does not end up on the street and in high schools.
You could also advise your boss, Mr. Carney, that contrary to his statement during the election, we do have a drug Crisis in Canada.

Karina Gould is right–it SHOULD be the best place but it isn’t! After 11 years of Liberal economic and fiscal incompetence which Karina has supported, it’s increasingly difficult for families to cope with the affordability crisis. And she has some nerve about talking about giving them a bright future. She voted for a so-called “generational” budget and the only thing generational about it is the exhorbitant debt that today’s children are being saddled with. Thanks, Karina.
Interesting the causes Karina Gould is raising in the House of Commons.
The last one was respect for government officials. She signalled out our Mayor at that time. Perhaps that is how our Mayor was voted best mayor 2025 as this is her pet project. Ms. Gould forgets that respect has to be earned.
In my opinion what she is asking for is not the purview of the Federal Government.
It would be more beneficial if she concentrated her efforts on homelessness, the price of groceries and perhaps deal with the hate that is now prevalent in our communities.
Looks like a member of parliament trying to be relevant.
Well, you know what they say Penny – if it looks like a duck (lame) and walks like a duck (almost crippled) and quacks like a duck (vocal signals of virtue), then it is probably a federal Liberal back-bencher.
