Should city staff be closer to the clock?
Four of the mainline banks have told their employees that they will have to be in the office four days a week starting the middle of September.
The pandemic changed the way people did their jobs – virtual was the route they took.
The pandemic no longer rules the way we live and work – but, many got to like not having to drive into the office every day.
Burlington chose to have a significant number of people work virtually – no word if that policy is going to change.
We recently learned of a delegation sent to City Council suggesting a four-day week.
The delegation was sent to Councillors so there was no discussion – they don’t always get read.
Is it time to have staff in place every day of the week?

If you have a desk at City Hall sit at it. The pandemic is long over.
Absolutely it is time to have staff in place daily at City Hall and Community Centres.
Many of us have experienced trying to contact a staff member at their place of employment in the city only to find out that they are “not available”. We then find out that they are working from home and not in the building.
When covid didn’t allow for personal contact that was one thing, but thankfully that is not the case presently. I often wonder how working from home is efficient, especially if there are children in the house that need to be attended to.
Working from home might be good for some employees however i think that the sharing of ideas with colleagues just does not happen.
Residents issues in some instances can take days or weeks for resolution.
