BURLINGTON, ON
Well, Mark Carney did win, by a resounding number of votes from some 150,000+ members of the Liberal Party across Canada.
He will meet with his caucus today and talk through when he should be sworn in and when to call the next election.
The House of Commons is prorogued red until March 27th, the moment their members return, expect an election to follow soon after.
If Pierre Poilievre is to have any hope of becoming the next Prime Minister, he needs an election that he has at least a half of a chance of winning.
The last thing Canada needs is an election in the middle of a tariff war that the President of the United States is using to economically annex Canada and make it his 51st state.
The historians will, in the fullness of time, tell a fuller story of how Canada got to where it is today.
Right now, what everyone cares about is where it is going to be tomorrow.
One of the disappointments was the number of votes Karina Gould got. She was less than a full point above Frank Baylis who got 3% of the votes.
Mark Carney won 85.9 per cent of the more than 150,000 votes cast.
The likelihood of Gould winning was very small, but 3.2% hurts.
She is described as something of a light-weight. They don’t know there woman – a light weight she “aint”.
Carney can’t form a government until he is sworn in as Prime Minister. He then has to decide who he wants with him as a Cabinet to manage the tariff problem that isn’t going to get any easier.
Carney put it all too well when he said things are going to move far more quickly than they ever have in the past. The moment Justin Trudeau resigns, his Cabinet resigns with him.
Carney is expected to choose a small Cabinet – there isn’t much time to work out the kinks.
As for Karina, she isn’t a member of Cabinet and will go into the federal election, whenever it is called, as a Member of Parliament, unless Carney brings her into the Cabinet he forms.
Don’t expect the Liberals to call the House of Commons together only to lose office on a confidence motion. Gould was the Government House leader, where she did a superb job. That job isn’t needed right now.
Carney is going to want people who can think on their feet and bring a strong strategic bent to the advice they give.
Carney is said to not suffer fools gladly. It will be interesting to see whom he chooses.
Where does this leave Karina Gould and the Burlington House of Commons seats she holds? Natalie Pierre held her seat as an MPP without ever speaking to the people who voted for her.

“Mark Carney will be the next Prime Minister of Canada – his first job is to ensure he can keep the job and at the same time keep Trump’s fingers out of our cookie jar”. Yes, Carney will certainly do that because as the last 9 years have clearly proven, the Liberals won’t remove their own hands from the cookie jar.
It is the Liberal government that has their hands in our pocket with counter tariffs. Let’s just call it what it is. the replacement carbon tax.
So does anyone else not find it peculiar that just over a third were able to cast a ballot and that the two females garnered together a meagre 11%.
I don’t ever expect to hear any comment on this from Gould’s campaign however stay tuned to the Freeland camp. Misogyny is alive and well in the Trudeau/Carney sideshow.
Last time I counted more than 15 senior cabinet ministers are not running for reelection. I actually heard the finance minister on Power Play on Sunday state that mathematics was not one of his best subjects.
Ww are left with the clowns and their new ringleader. Imagine stepping out of a bunch of corporate board rooms, donning a Captain Canada hat and presenting yourself as the Saviour of struggling Canadians after being Trudeau’s financial architect of the Titanic.
Buy that and I have some be beach front lots in Nunavut to sell you.
Interesting data. I Looks like only 190 Burlington Liberal registrated riding members voted for Karina ? You can review the results in detail below.

Carney has already given Trump a nice bag of fresh cookies bound with a nice red ribbon when he as Chairman voted, and recommended to shareholders that Brookfield Asset Management move their headquarters to NYC, down the street from Trump Tower – you can’t make this stuff up.
His carbon policy eliminating the consumer carbon tax and making the “big polluters” pay only helps to drive jobs and investment into the US. Likewise his policy to tariff imports from countries that do not have a carbon tax will do the same.
At the end of the day, if he gets his way, the cookies, the jar, flour, sugar, the baker, and oven will all be sent south.
Oh, and BTW, did many of us call the outcome of Gould’s campaign? What does that say when your own party only supports you to the level of 3%. In hindsight this was simply about fleecing gullible doners in support of a sinking ship.
$350k to keep a plum job?
Carney will bring in some people from outside government to fill key cabinet positions. He does not have the heavy hitters he needs .
I doubt Gould will be in cabinet.
I’d like to see her given the Democratic Institutions portfolio again with the complete ability to put a ranked ballot system in place like they just used in the leadership race, but for all federal elections after the next one likely this spring.
That task was taken away from her by Trudeau before it was even started, an insult to her and to Canadian citizens. She could do this!
If Carney has the smarts we think he has he will bring Karina into Cabinet where she will continue to do great things…we’re proud of you Karina…very brave to be s a young woman running in this leadership contest. You have enormous potential!!
