Mayor's office has yet to take the time to get to the washrooms in Spencer Smith Park issue

A reader asked:

Can someone please tell us when we can expect an answer to why the Spencer Smith Washrooms were closed on Thanksgiving Monday?   This is our fourth response to the question/complaint confirming the question is being asked.    This service question is not going to go away because everyone, other than giving it a complaint number is ignoring a very reasonable question with regard to the services that taxpayers have paid to be put in place and expect to be open at the Park on a very busy Thanksgiving Monday at the Park.

Response from the Office of the Mayor:

Access to the washrooms at Discovery Landing are dependent on the operating hours of the restaurant.

The washrooms are on the lower level – the restaurant is on the upper level – one has nothing to do with the other – other than that they are in the same building. City is waffling on this one.

Editor’s note: That statement is just not true.

No explanation as to why the City of Burlington provided washrooms are dependent on a private restaurant.   These washrooms serve the city ice rink and the park with its Splash Pad and have nothing to do with the restaurant.

This is a very serious service city issue that is being blamed on a private restaurant.

Why?

Doesn’t look like this issue is going to go away.

Why do our politicians continue to either position or lie to the taxpayers when these requests and needs are just a simple cost as part of all the wasted tax dollars that our Councillors approve for their own needs. Let’s start by being honest, transparent and engaged in the needs of families in Burlington instead of trying to blame small businesses.

Really- there is a very simple answer to why the washrooms were not open at Spencer Smith Park on Thanksgiving Monday.

The city was not prepared to pay time and a half to have an employee in the building.to keep the washrooms clean.

Blaming the restaurant for this is so predictable.

Came across a statement today about 1 hr. ago in a set of old minutes while reviewing the budget pg 261 JBH Provision matter. They say “Undertake a staff review of programming in Discovery Landing”. Staff don’t undertake programming for a restaurant building only buildings they own or lease as part of Parks and Rec. Why do they think the public and nedia would believe their statement on why closed on Thanksgiving. They dig the hole deeper and deeper and surely must answer for it soon and close down the totally ineffective Service Burlington.
