BURLINGTON, ON

City Council will be debating on- street parking this week.

This is the problem: the city will be considering solution options.

A survey done by the city is one of the pieces of information that will be presented.

A lack of leadership and planning at the COB is the reason for the ongoing shortage of parking spots across Burlington. Both our current mayor, council and the planning department have allowed various housing developments, townhomes and condos to be approved and built with a shortage of parking spaces per unit. Now, they are trying to rectify their mistakes by allowing on street parking all over Burlington!! This has and will continue to have a long and ongoing detrimental impact on Burlington residents!!
There is a reason why the required number of parking spaces are part of the whole building and planning process.
    Cutting corners causes chaos!!

I’m not sure what type of “survey” this is but, regardless, it speaks volumes. Every factor is positioned from the city’s perspective and the likelihood is an assessment of impact on COB. Where is the likelihood of reduced traffic flow and congestion, where the threat of public disruption and increased noise pollution during the night, where the safety issues with parked cars obstructing the vision of both drivers and children?

Maybe a good chance for the City to lead by example, close all city employee parking lots; also no on-street parking downtown, we all have driveways big enough for our vehicles.

Good point, David. The garage was invented to hold the family buggy a long time ago before cars were invented. Then it was used to store the family car overnight. Made a lot of sense. It has always amazed me in recent decades how so few families actually store the car (or cars) in the garage. The garage has become a storage shed for every piece of stuff the family owns but can’t be stored inside except the car(s). It seems most families fill their driveways up 24/7 with the car(s) and maybe the road in front. It seems that I’m now the exception rather than the norm, storing my car, motorcycle, all shovels and rakes, waste bins, three ladders and two bicycles every night in our single car garage. Extra driveway parking and along the curb out front is for our guests. Am I doing it all wrong?
