Retirement income – how much will you have once you have retired, is a serious question for a lot of people.
The data set out below was obtained through a poll of 1000 Americans by the BlackRock and the Bipartisan Policy Center located in Washington DC
BlackRock and the Bipartisan Policy Center are convening lawmakers and executives next month for a summit meant to address the “impending crisis” surrounding Americans’ retirement plans. Are Canadians facing the same problems ? Would Canadian responses be much different?
Is there anyone in Canada pulling together experts to gather data and at least begin thinking about the problem – if there is one.

The thing I would fear much more, if I had one, would be that I would be reliant on a government-funded pension.
Maybe if they didn’t have to pay out over 50% or more of their pensions on rent it wouldn’t be as much of a worry. A rent subsidy for seniors based on their income would be a start to bring their rent payments down to under market value instead of the wildly inflated rents being asked. No senior citizen should be expected to be paying $2,000+ to put a roof over their head.
