Things are a little tense with local Conservatives.

BURLINGTON, ON

There is not much more than confusion and a constant state of bickering between the political parties in Ottawa. The Conservatives desperately want an election – tomorrow if they could have their way.  To pull the plug now would result in an election weeks before Christmas – which no one wants.

The Liberals seem to have taken the position to just wait it out and be ready to campaign in June of 2025.

Conservative Party Leader Pierre Poilievre

The hope is that Pierre Poilievre will continue to blow his brains out and that the economy will turn taking some of the pressure off the Liberals.

Good luck to all of them.

Locally – it’s a tense game.

There are three potential candidates for the Conservative nomination.

Emily Brown who has every right to expect to be given the nod from Burlington PC members.  She has earned it but she is sweating this one

Newcomer Connor Fraser is out doing everything he can to get in front of people.

Shaheryar Mian

Shaheryar Mian tells people he is out knocking on doors – we’ve yet to hear of anyone who has seen him as their doorstep.

The Gazette is trying to interview – so far – no response.  Not a good sign.

The rules of the game for the local Conservative Association is that anyone seeking the nomination can sign up new members – there are qualifications.  Must live in the constituency.

Connor Fraser campaigning during Appleby Line Festival

The federal Conservative Association will at some point advise each constituency that they have 48 hours after which they must close off the accepting of new members to the local association.

At that point those seeking the nomination will have to register the people that have recruited as new members.

The fear is that Shaheryar Mian will dump hundreds of new members and be in a position to win the nomination when it comes to a vote.

Things are a little tense with local Conservatives.

I’m a proud card-carrying Conservative and am down with Emily Brown, and whenever the time comes, I will drag myself across broken glass by my eyelids to cast my vote.

We need to get more information on the candidates running.

Do they live in Burlington? Have they been active in Municipal Politics to get a feel for what the residents want?

One of the men running has a father who owns a huge development company. According to the development company’s website they are planning on developing 1900 Appleby Lane.

Do we want the candidate who signs up “hundreds of new members” because they can or the person who will be there to represent the residents of Burlington?

Listening to Leader PP over and over, promising to fix everything, for every body, seeming instantly, while living within the Fed budget means, without the carbon tax, drives my wife and I, very brain weary.

What he keeps blowing about is of course impossible, even if he always says it is “common sense”, an old Conservative – Mike Harris – cover for deep cuts to pay for what they really want and will do.

I will say he isn’t doing himself any good with this rapid paced rant election spiel. Like the story says, I hope he blows his brains out before he takes mine.

They need to get elected to represent the residents of Burlington.
That means signing enough members to win and become a party candidate.
Then they need to convince the electorate that they are the right person to represent Burlington.

If you feel strongly about it sign up to become a member and get a vote on who the cons choose.

Why would I sign on to be a con, if I find the PP spiel so impossibly deceptive, and I don’t like any of it?

I don’t understand your reasoning that to maybe get a candidate as you describe, I have to join the local Party that is pushing the PP platform?

With this platform, never, and what potential candidate would not follow the party line?

Call yourself a Liberal? Hah! Cheating the system is what you’re being asked to do, tipping the scales to elect a ‘cino’ or someone reasoned to be unlikable to Conservative voters, it’s time you re-evaluated your position, old son; Time to swallow it and change or just sit this election out.

I make up my own mind. based on my own thinking and reasons. Anyone who makes the drag by eyelids over broken glass I carry no card and never have – Conservatives in my long history have all been liars in my judgment anyways, and sure are now.

Your eyelid drag over broken glass pledge, to vote proudly for a con card carrier, a year plus from now, has stopped your thinking – evaluating the PP policy position effectiveness numbers is not possible now – it’s all just a rhetoric of fiction, by an untrustworthy story-teller.

It’s you guys that are trying to cheat the system of truth.

Isn’t signing up. hundreds of new members a good thing?
Why does Brown have every right to expect the nod?
If she can’t attract new members maybe she’s not the right candidate.

Yes I’m sure all of his developer friends have bought memberships. You have no idea how many new members Emily has or will be signing up. We all know that she has great support amongst the existing membership. Emily has been working tirelessly for the local Conservative EDA raising money, hosting town halls and signing up new members. Emily is not an opportunist with alterior motives, she is a lifelong Conservative with an upstanding reputation who will serve the people of Burlington with integrity and an impeccable work ethic.
Signed a former member of the Burlington Conservative Association.
