Was Canada being made the 51st state a joke - views differ

BURLINGTON, ON

Alexandra Petri, a Washington Post columnist didn’t think President-Elect Donald Trumps comment about annexing Canada and making it the American 51st state was a joke

The headline on her December 4th, column read –  I’m not afraid to say it: Annexing Canada is not a good idea.

Petri explains: “This all started when Trump threatened to add 25 percent tariffs to all goods coming from Canada. Then, according to Fox News, Justin Trudeau objected on the grounds that this idea was stupid, so Trump said that if Canada didn’t like it, it could become our 51st state. And then there was “nervous laughter.”

In an attempt to put some spin on the issue, which the Trudeau government wants to get off the front page, Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc said the incoming president’s suggestion was said in jest.

“The president was telling jokes, the president was teasing us. It was of course on that issue in no way a serious comment,” LeBlanc told reporters on his way into a cabinet meeting.

Don’t you just love the way the politicians try to get your mind off an issue and onto something else?

It’s never going to happen – what the comment revealed is that Trump is totally out of control and we are going to have to put up with the man until at least November of 2026.

Burlington’s Steve Warner doesn’t share that view.  He maintains that: “Unfortunately, around 2050 or so, Canada will be annexed by the USA. It will be for the vast supply of fresh water which Canada has, and the land that will be needed to house the many US refugees, from rising sea levels. People will poo poo this but it is going to happen unless Putin blows the world up in the next few years.”

What does one say to a leader who comes “hat in hand” to beg not to have to deal with a proposed 25% trade tariff?

Did Justin Trudeau expect Donald Trump to simply say okay?

Canada has become a laughing stock on the global stage. We have no military to speak of and would depend totally on the United States should Russia go after our northern border.

Donald Trump is a strong supporter of Israel, bringing home the hostages and stopping the war in Gaza, while our Prime Minister turns a blind eye to all the violent protests taking place against Israel on the streets and at the Universities in Canada.

Justin declares that Canada will follow the ICC ruling and arrest Prime Minister Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant ( former minister of defence) should they land in Canada.

Guess Justin has forgotten the Meng Wanzhou fiasco.

It is hard to take a leader seriously when his claim to fame is wearing ridiculous socks, dances to Taylor Swift ( while there are violent protests happening), and takes off for vacation instead of attending the “First Truth and Reconciliation Day that he was asked to attend,” while his official itinerary placing him in private meetings in Ottawa”.

For those of you who will undoubtedly ask – No I am not a supporter of Tramp. However, he was elected to be President of the United States and Canada has been put on notice to step up and meet its commitments. Something Canada has not done in years.

We all get what we voted for.

This has been part of the the U.S. plan for world dominance since 1812. They don’t like to lose.

I just checked my X feed, and someone had posted this: (If America decides to invade Canada under Trump, would you answer Trudeau’s call to defend Canada?) 1.6k replies and counting.

    • How about if Russia invaded the North?

I did cover that in the first article on this subject,
(We also have a Northern border that Trudeau is not protecting, Oh I forgot, and an East and West coast, and all the bits in between; you can only sleep at night because of the Americans, so we might as well join them.) The post on X was only in regards to America, interestingly out of the 1.6k replies that I sampled most would not defend Trudeau’s call, there was another post asking if Canadians would defend Canada, I sampled some of the 4.5k replies and found a 50/50 split but with a lot of conditions attached on both sides, there were a few wags, one stating he wouldn’t want to become an American state as they cannot protect their borders, one other stated, what am I supposed to defend Canada with, a Rake?

If Justin gets his way and puts production caps on oil production. Alberta may join the USA leaving the rest of us out in the cold.

One commentator ‘Steve Warner’ in the original article mentioned Canada’s fresh water and the idea that we will eventually be under American annexation, Steve says to not poo-poo the warning, Steve is referring to the ‘Great Lakes-St Lawrence River Basin Sustainable Water Resources Agreement’ between Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Minnesota, New York, Ohio, Ontario, Pennsylvania, Quebec and Wisconsin to protect the sustainability of the basin in regard to human life, note: All of these American States mentioned having a ‘National Gaurd’ and they would need it, as coastal populations start relocating to the basin area to survive, my thinking here is that the Americans will take control of the basin area and Canadians in the two Provinces will be sworn in as citizens of this new ‘Basin State’; never say never.
