There is something I do not understand about the Halton District School Board graphic that is set out below.

This is the Halton District School Board Multi-Year Strategic Plan.

Essential!
Why no mention of Reading and Mathematics, the core subjects of any public school service?

Vital!

I am not using my real name for this comment but the Editor is well aware of my identity. I do this because I do not trust that my commentary will not result in adverse consequences for my grandchildren who are ‘in the system’. Sadly, there seems to be no more repressive reaction than that of the woke institutions. They brook neither interference nor contradiction.
What I believe that we have today throughout Ontario, not just in Halton, is an educational construct that is most concerned with “behaviours” as opposed to basic academic fundamentals and abilities. Intentionally or consequentially, it is directed towards social programming rather than proficiency and the results are extremely disturbing; senior secondary students who have no knowledge of confederation but view Canadian history primarily through the lens of our indigenous and marginalized peoples, who celebrate Remembrance Day as honouring the sacrifice and contributions of only the distinct few. There seems to be no balanced perspective, no grounded world view, no placement of the “cherished particular” within a broader context. Diversity and inclusion have become the pervasive mantra with teachers now social guides rather than instructors. We have forgotten that the Canadian identity is not only based on the special contribution of immigrant peoples and the founding nations but on the incorporation of their cultures within a special Vertical Mosaic which represents a truly unique outcome – the Canadian identity.
We have replaced accepted measures of academic achievement with desired social thinking – ubiquitous emotional life skills. The result will be, in my very jaundiced opinion, a citizenry that can barely write its name (it’s cursive after all), that argues that 2 + 2 = 4 is too Linear in concept and that, ironically, views all that is rich and distinct about Canadian culture as colonized “cultural appropriation”. What a brave, brave new world it is in which we live.
School boards need to be taken over by the province. They spend too much time and waste too much money of not teaching our children what they really need to be learning! Math, science’s, english, history, geography, living in the real world and physical education! Young people are now coming out of school and can’t even make change. Time for the province to get rid of all of these programs that dwell on stuff no one will ever use! I for one am fed up with constantly be drilled down my throat that we are all bad and these programs will make us good and atone for our past actions! Enough already. Teach our kids reality and how to handle the real world out there not indoctrinate them into this fake world these programs are actually all about!
