BURLINGTON, ON

Conservation Halton is looking for 100 community volunteers to help plant 500 native trees and shrubs on Saturday, May 5, 2018. This year’s Trees for Watershed Health Tree Planting is taking place at Bayview Park in Burlington, 1800 King Road.

Bayview Park is in a really interesting part of the city. It is on the road to the spot where the Jefferson Salamander crosses the road to mate in the spring. It is in between two of the cell quarries where shale is mined for the manufacturing of brick. It has astounding views of the the Bay and the Skyway bridge. It is home to a rifle club; the space where model airplane enthusiasts send the models climbing into the sky. The weekend of May 5th ideally 100 people will be planting trees.

Registration and check-in will begin at 9 a.m., with planting scheduled to start shortly after 9:30 a.m. Light refreshments will be available – coffee, juice, water and a continental breakfast. Volunteers are reminded to dress according to the weather, wear waterproof boots and bring a shovel. The event will happen rain or shine, unless conditions are deemed to be unsafe for participants and staff.

We welcome all individuals, families, and small groups to participate. No prior planting experience is required.
Space is limited and pre-registration is mandatory, visit www.conservationhalton.ca/trees-for-watershed-health for more details and to find registration information.

Conservation Halton has partnered with the City of Burlington and Cootes to Escarpment EcoPark System on this event. Trees for Watershed Health is a Conservation Halton community outreach program which gets watershed residents and community groups involved in tree planting.

The program is designed to bring communities and nature together to increase forest cover in the watershed through volunteers planting trees at selected sites.
