BURLINGTON, ON
Planning department Staff presented a glowing approval of the 120+ acre development along King Road.
And the developer’s planner took them through a thick booklet with all kinds of architectural renderings that gave the public a clearer idea of what will be built where.

There will be four nodes; there will be precincts, and there will be elements. All new language for a project that will be home to 8800 residential units, running from townhouses to high-rise structures. There will be high-rise structures that have stacked townhouses at the grade level. There will be some rentals. There is a commitment for at least 5% of the units to be affordable.
Council was in live with the idea and didn’t really have all that much in the way of questions other than where the roads would be and what the speed limits on those roads would be set at.
The Traffic/Transportation people did their best to answer the questions, but at this point they weren’t able to say very much. King Road is currently two lanes wide with a bridge over the 403. The bridge is the property of the Ministry of Transportation, and they decide when a wider bridge is put in place.

The lead architecture firm for Alinea’s massive mixed-use development at 1200 King Road in Burlington is Toronto-based Giannone Petricone Associates Inc., a Toronto-based design firm, led since 1995 by Principals Ralph Giannone and Pina Petricone.
The entertainment district is slated to be the first construction the public will see. No dates, but a solid explanation as to what will be in place. No mention was made of the swimming pools during this presentation.

The Entertainment District will be the first part to be developed. There will be a hotel, a Convention Center, a skating rink, a 7,000-seat arena and swimming pools.
There is a lot more to tell you about this development and the impact it will have on the city. More to follow.

The development is intended to be walk-able. There will be vehicles, but speed limits will be set at 30 kmh.
