Pepper…my final comment. It’s ludicrously beyond the pale you would run a story like this. I’m pissed at myself that I have wasted 20 minutes of my valuable time reading and responding to such an inane, banal and potboiler yarn. Note to MMW, Burlington Councillors, Natalie Pierre, Karina Gould et al…don’t take vacations. And, it still isn’t entertaining.
Editor’s note: What is concerning about this comment is – parkie doesn’t have the courage of his convictions – we have no idea who he/she is.
A few closing comments provided in the spirit of journalistic accuracy and offering up my ‘two cents’…
1. Let’s assume it is the politician named by the two other readers…Ontario MPP’s lost their so called ‘gold plated’ pensions when Mike Harris eliminated them in 1995.
2. The named politician has been a private citizen for ~two years – she is no longer in the public sphere; what right do you or any other publication have to pose the question around how she may “enjoying the good life” and how she has paid for it (I assume she EARNED it).
3. I know many Burlingtonians that have the ability to afford a T+C vacation without a defined benefit index pension – how did they do that – by working their butt off the other 50 weeks of the year or if they are in retirement mode, saving judiciously over the past 50+ years.
4. With respect to the storyline: the public had no right to be informed and unfortunately to boot, it wasn’t entertaining. Yellow Journalism at its finest.
Editor’s note: You are misinformed. The person you speak of serves on the Halton Police Board and the Ports Toronto (formerly Toronto Harbour Commission) both of which pay their members. We will accept your apology any time you like.
Obviously it has to be a politician. No average citizen can afford to visit Turks and Caicos unless they are in receipt of an indexed pension. Those of us in the proletariat get to spend an afternoon at Kelso if we’re lucky.
Must be a slow news day in Burlington!!!!!
Editor’s note: Entertaining is part of keeping a public informed. When you know who it is enjoying the good life – questions come to mind. How are they paying for that?
