I have read the descriptions of the artist’s work. Perhaps the subtlety of the artistry (at least it’s not Styrofoam) combined with the complexity of its associations and the truly vast “tapestry” of cultural references and historic insights is just beyond me. But this is really one bridge too far. I will not be attending lest I be accused of some form of cultural appropriation (pick one or all) through proximity.

I had hoped that the “crossroads” that Senior Curator, Suzanne Carte, believes is the provisional state of the AGB would have been passed; that the direction would now be chosen – contemporary art that was directly approachable with obvious relevance not requiring a misandrist road map. Art where the craft was manifest and the political/social commentary uniquely expressed. Perhaps Ms Carte would be more comfortable in the much more amenable and spiritually supportive cultural environment of her home city, Tkaronto? But a 2-counter has little gravitas there.
