BURLINGTON, ON
It was a rumour at first – but it now appears to be true: The Beer Store on Elizabeth between Pine and Lakeshore will close sometime in January.
A reader reports that it’s been there forever. Does anyone know who owns the building – prime property.
The closing is the result of the Legislation that brought in the selling of beer at retail locations. The supermarkets, even the gas stations have cashed in on this.
The Gazette reached out to the media people at the Beer Store corporate level – nothing so far.
Our reader asks: “Where are we supposed to return our empties if The Beer Stores closes, even if we can buy the product in a corner store, which I don’t because I like unusual brands?”
A Gazette reader with a discriminating taste for beer – wonderful.
At some point, the province is going to have to come up with a way for people to return empty bottles for recycling. The beer makers actually need the bottles.
“Graham” is perhaps one of the insipid entitled who discovered free parking, then went wandering for hours in Spencer Smith Park. For simple Beer Store patrons it was fine. I am no fan of Parking Inspectors, but they ignored this facility. It’s being closed because of condo development pressure, and the Beer Store management sluggos have ignored other alternatives, the needs of the bar & restaurant industry, and the regular
patrons. Longo’s Plaza, Mountainside, & Appleby Mall are not downtown…..
Other than maybe the village square ( but dont count on it) you can kiss anything low rise goodbye from Fairview to the waters edge. Not because of Ford, but because of the political intensification geniuses who predated him both here in Burlington and Queens Park. As to how this transpired in our core, look no further than “ the little bus station that could” a.k.a Mobility Hub.
Seems logical. That location very few parking spots .Lots of places nearby to buy Beer.
What happened to the 15 minute city ? Apparently the Liquor store is going to close and the Fortinos on Brant is in play for devlopment. With all the condo development and cars that go with it, you need to wonder what’s going on.
I could be wrong. I believe the Molinaro monopoly owns the whole block. It use to belong to someone l went to highschool with. They also want all the retail in their condos. This according to a woman( Molinaro interests) pontificating about this at a town meeting.
There’s no beer store on Martha – there is one on Elizabeth.
Thank you for the correction
