“Canadians rewarded”????? Carney reduced the excise tax by 10 cents a litre but if anyone has been paying attention, he will still recoup some of that through the increased GST revenues on the higher gas prices.

Carney is showing a too familiar pattern. Remember when he announced a federal income tax cut on the first level of income taxes? He certainly likes to remind us. BUT readers, Mark Carney is lying to you. He actually raised some taxes:

    1. when calculating non-refundable tax credits, the basic personal exemption has been raised to adjust for inflation (that’s good!!!!). However, when you have calculated and added all these credits, you then have to multiply them by a percentage to get the actual credits. In 2024, it was .15%, for 2025, the Liberals reduced it to .145%. In other words, your tax credit will be lower than it otherwise would be and your federal taxes higher!!!

Did Carney tell you this in his post? NO! He’s trying to sneak one by you.

    2. Keep in mind seniors, when Carney was running for office last year, he promised that he would allow seniors to take a one-time, 25% reduction in their RIFF withdrawal rates. Once elected, he forgot, in typical Liberal fashion, about his election promise.

    3. one of the key non-refundable tax credits is the medical expenses credit and this becomes increasingly important as we seniors get older. However, on line 115, you have to reduce your medical claim by the lower of 3% of your net income or a fixed amount. In 2024, this fixed amount was $2759 but for 2025, it was raised to 2824. The result of course is to reduce the medical expenses credit. Mr. Carney even likes to tax your sickness!!!!

Carney doesn’t really steal Poilievre’s ideas–Carney creates the ILLUSION that he is doing so. Poilievre promised to remove the carbon tax–ALL the carbon tax; Carney only removed the consumer portion (while at the same cancelling your carbon tax credit), while at the same time INCREASING the industrial carbon tax which YOU pay in the form of higher prices.

Poilievre promised to remove ALL federal taxes on gasoline. Once again, Carney creates the ILLUSION by cancelling only one of the federal taxes. Carney is such a con man.

It was Peter Poilievres Idea. As a journalist, at least you could have the decency to give proper credit where it is due
