BURLINGTON, ON
As of today, the divisive “carbon tax” was officially cancelled. Canadians will save an average of 18 cents/litre at the pumps.

Will Trump wear that smirk when he signs the Executive Order that will set out what his tariff plan is going to set out?
By the end of the day, we will know what Trump’s tariffs are going to do to us – we might not be able to afford to buy a car that we can put that gas into.
There are going to be cars manufactured in Canada on the market.
Used car prices are expected to rise.

As a pensioner that uses my small car just to go for groceries locally, I have just lost a good chunk of my income. Today I saw traffic, mainly SUV’s with one driver, in nose to tail gridlock…at lunchtime! I hope the people who can afford to run these large vehicles appreciate the fact that while they save a few dollars at the pump, people like me will be buying a few less groceries and the air we breathe will suffer.
Mark Carney did not get rid of the carbon tax. This takes legislation to accomplish. What he did was simply reduce the tax to 0%. This could be increased at any time should he become Prime Minister.
His shadow carbon tax will supposedly only affect industrial manufacturing. What this will do is increase the cost of products which will be charged back to the purchaser. It will also discourage new manufacturing companies from setting up in Canada.
The one thing that people need to remember – with the cancellation of this carbon tax there will be NO MORE carbon rebate checks, but the shadow tax will definitely affect us.
This is not good news for the climate!
Let’s remember that this tax was revenue neutral – meaning that heavy users of gasoline with their SUV’s and pick-up trucks paid more while transit users, EV and economy vehicle owners were rewarded.
Also, the ending of the gas tax credit cheques will hit our poorest residents the hardest.

And the price of other necessities like Natural Gas will drop.
