Emmas has a future - the owners just haven't figured out what that will be

BURLINGTON, ON

Does anyone know what is going to happen to Emmas Back Porch?

The fencing suggest they want to keep people away from the place.

Perhaps the most historic building in the city is behind a protective fence while the owners determine when conditions are right for re-opening.

The front of the building has been cleaned up – the signs for Emmas and the Waterstreet Cookery were given a re-fresh.

We get notes from people from time to time suggesting that an announcement is coming.

The current owners were at one point renting out the space for private events.

Within five years the north side of Old Lakeshore Road will be row of high high towers with entrances leading onto Old Lakeshore Road.

A model prepared by a developer with just one of the developments within the football – they will dwarf Emmas.

I can’t imagine, seeing the current daily gridlock of traffic at a standstill on Lakeshore now, how anyone thinks our roads – and route to our hospital – can handle all the cars from these towers in this tiny bit of land on a road that is one land and very narrow.

The recent total collapse of the entire south core when there was yet another accident and closure on the Skyway caused every side street and main road to be completely blocked from mid afternoon until after 10 pm. No vehicles, including emergency ones, could get around on any of our streets. People were abandoning their cars and walking home, causing more problems as cars had to then go around the parked ones, which meant we had cars both trying to go opposite ways in one lane – and buses and trucks – and they all just stopped and stared at each other, nobody able to move. For hours.

But oh yes, the “traffic studies” done by the developers themselves always predict no problems at all. What a joke.

Just a thought from a curious mind, Pepper…why didn’t you interview the new owners as to their intentions?

I think the plan is wonderful!
