BURLINGTON, ON
The federal Conservatives will be choosing their candidate on Wednesday, November 27th at the Convention Centre on 1200 Burloak Road starting at 6:00 pm
There has been no statement from the Conservative Party on who the candidates are seeking the nomination.
The Gazette knows that Emily Brown and Connor Fraser have been vetted.
We contacted the people running the Shaheryar Mian campaign to confirm that their candidate has not been vetted and approved.
There was no response.
After fact-checking the information we were given during the Mian interview, we found that the home address we were given was more than 2 km outside the Burlington constituency boundary.
We will reach out to the Conservative Party organization to confirm just who the candidates seeking the nomination are going to be.
Our understanding is that there will be a debate of some form during the nomination selection.

Perhaps a good start would be for Connor Fraser to post any real world work experience he has, as opposed to listing temporary co-op positions and “commenting in online publications”. I’m not sure how working on a student podcast at the University would qualify him to be a member of parliament. Don’t get me wrong, we all have to start somewhere but…..it is going to take a person with a solid track record standing along side of Pierre, if we are going to take back Burlington from team Gould/Trudeau. Anyone can say anything in an hour long debate. They have debate clubs in University where they hone their debating skills. Someone may be a seasoned debater but have zero real life experience. I would rather base my decision on a person’s proven track record. We must consider the demographics of Burlington. We simply cannot risk running with a relatively unknown in the upcoming election.
The official notice we received states statements will proceed voting not a debate. Perhaps if we get enough comments that there should be a debate MC”d by someone experienced at doing so, minds can be changed but we are not holding our breathe. . Debate is how members can properly judge who will do the best job for us.
