Gazette decides to move the hosting of the oldest online newspaper in Burlington from the United States to Canada

BURLINGTON, ON

On the 29th, Wednesday, the Gazette will be moving the location where it is hosted in the United States to a Canadian corporation located in Ontario.

There are a number of reasons for the change.  The biggest concern is just what the government of the United States can or might do to the content of the newspaper on a website.

This man and his government is not to be trusted. The Gazette is leaving the United States.

When websites are migrated from one location to another, it doesn’t always go smoothly.  The people on the Canadian end are working with us very closely, and everything has gone very well – so far.

It might be a little bumpy on Thursday.

Bear with us.

“Editor’s note: Interesting that the reader would see our doing what has to be done to protect our property as “virtue signalling”.

Even more interesting is your note since the manner in which you operate your “online newspaper” is more Trumpian than Canadian from what I have observed. You exercise complete editorial control over which comments are posted and which not (I have recent experience with this), you insert yourself strangely and without welcome into the commentary and you attribute others work to the ubiquitous “Gazette Staff”, all 0 of them. Putting your hosting dollars into the hands of Canadians deserves full marks (although actual ownership may surprise you). Everything else is pure hubris.

    Editor’s response:
What you fail to appreciate is that if you make a comment that a person or a corporation finds offensive – I get served with a writ. Usual the Statement of Claim fades away in a couple of months – but in the meantime I have to fork my person money (of which there isn’t very much) to defend myself and the Gazette corporation.

Developers in Burlington get sensitive when readers say something they don’t like. So whuile you get to get your rocks off – I have to bear the expense.

So yes, I do exercise complete control

We shall always be tied and be friends with the US. The orange man bad syndrome is simplistic and polarizing. Virtue signalling from a newspaper is not inspiring in any way.
