Gazette Unable to Host Candidate for Mayor debate

BURLINGTON, ON

A number of months ago, the Gazette announced its intention to host debates between the Mayoralty candidates.

The event that we planned proved to be beyond our financial resources.

Rory Nisan is said to have committed to taking part in the debate.

Lisa Kearns is said to have committed to taking part in the debate.

When we advised that a Burlington not-for-profit group had their own plans for debates well underway, we decided it was better to have one debate that all the candidates running could take part in.

Our understanding is that Mayor Meed Ward has decided to wait until nominations close in August before committing to take part.

The date, time and location of the event is best left to the hosting group to announce.

The important thing was to ensure there was a debate

The Roseland Community Association is hosting both a Mayoralty debate as well as a debate for the Ward 4 candidates late in October.
