BURLINGTON, ON

The Roseland Community Organization sponsored a Q&A with the candidates running for city Council in ward 4

Candidates for ward 4 council seat: Olivia Duke, Shawna Stolte, Tony Brecknock and Eden Wood.

The event took place in the Roseland Room at Port Nelson United Church.

The audience was respectable. You could find a seat but you had to look for one.

There were no great revelations, no huge surprises.

Comment on the event will come later in the day – we wanted to get the webcast up for the public to see for themselves what took place.

Councilor Stolte did nothing in 4 years. All talk about all the committees she was on and yet did not create 1 affordable unit in Burlington. All she did was read pre-determined answers to pre- determined questions. No details on anything.

Anne Marsden you have lost my vote……when do you think Tony Brecknock will find the time to show up at City Hall when he apparently runs his own business…I want a councillor that gives 100 percent not one that has other obligations…p.s. I too attended last night……..

    • I respect your opinion but if you want more of the same you are entitled to such. Tony Brecknock will not only be at the Council and Committee meetings, he will like all of us be working on new By-laws and several other projects as well as learning the ropes. I will not let a new councillor chair a committee until they can pass my test of whether they are fit to serve in this role or not. Nisan and Kearns even at the end of four years MMW even after 12 year do not know what a quorum is. Paul Sharman, Jack Dennison and others ran their own businesses and for the most part were present. At least physically, not sure where their minds were at Audit Committee as they let a lot past them which will have to be addressed in the first year of my watch if we are to have two 0% increase budgets which is a must.

I met Tony Brecknock during Halton District School Board’s PARC. When 2 Burlington high schools were closed. Tony is hard working, honest and the most down to earth person. He fights for what he believes in. He listens and then reacts. If Tony is elected to represent Ward 4 you are very lucky people. I wish he was running for Mayor!!
      BTW I don’t live in Ward 4

Having attended the event it was a great opportunity to to hear from all candidates and their view points on bettering Burlington and specifically Ward 4.

Seems Olivia Duke is ready to take on the job. She presented herself well, with intelligence and all the characteristics of a community representative! Could she be the candidate that can actually stand by a platform of transparency, accountability and integrity unlike those before her?

It’s time for some accountability! Looking forward to a new direction for Ward 4!

Thank you for publishing this.It is so helpful in making an informed decision before voting!

  • Thank you for this Pepper. We were very impressed by Brecknock he seems to be a very strong candidate who sees things from the people’s perspective who we both would like to see elected. He has the credentials and certainly does not seem afraid of hard work which it definitely is going to be probably for the full four year term.
