BURLINGTON, ON
A Hold & Secure has been put in place at Burlington City Hall.
The City is actively monitoring the situation and working with Halton Regional Police Service to resolve the matter.
Burlington City Hall remains closed for the remainder of the day.
Only other word is a thanks to residents for their patience and understanding.
Mayor Meed Ward added a comment on her LinkedIn pshe:
“Council and staff at City Hall have been escorted out by police and we are safe. I want to thank police for their quick actions and care to attend to this matter and keep us all safe.”

My wife was in her office at City Hall, working, when the building was locked down due to an individual in the lobby threatening to kill someone. I and her daughters were very worried about her safety. Given the recent behaviour of overly aggressive citizens toward Burlington elected officials recently, the concern is real for me. She is doing her best. Truly. I could not be more proud to know her.
Editor’s note: Some of this information does not square with police reports.
I understand from reports in other sources that this whole affair was essentially a “domestic”; a threat made to a city employee by an acquaintance. The police actually did not initiate the ‘hold and secure’ when advised of the issue. It was a bit of an over-reaction, I believe, but entirely consistent with the emotional largesse that seems to be a feature of City Hall. I am waiting for the other “shoe to drop” – in this case one with a stiletto heel. I am reminded of the palace guard created by Richard Nixon in the early 70s for the White House; navy blue trousers with white coats, lots of gold braid and snappy little black caps. Given the apparently perilous environment which our local politicians and staff bravely occupy, can our own version be far off – garbs of orange and blue or thematic red? The “Council Constabulary”, the “Respect Enforcers” – the “Beserkers of the Horseshoe Table”?! The branding possibilities are virtually endless and perhaps will be the subject of yet another COB public engagement exercise or survey.
Editor’s note: Perhaps Smith would like to turn his hand to early stage drawings of what those uniforms could look like.
The police report indicates that they arrested a 37 year old Burlington man last evening.
No name was provided. Why? I thought only those under 18 years of age were protected this way,

So … Someone got angry and threatened (over the phone) to kill someone at city hall and they evacuate the building. IMHO that’s an overreaction. I’d agree if person was actually at city hall or there was a bomb threat.

Oh my goodness, this is just proof of how timely and necessary the Mayor’s “Elect Respect” movement is. How courageous are all the politicians and staff in just coming to work! What amazing dedication to serving the citizens of Burlington.
It’s fortunate that this horrible incident has added necessary public attention to Meed Ward’s latest crusade in the public interest.
Are you actually serious? my god the woman is a walking virtue signalling self centred Liberal . By the way her petition was started by another feminist whiner ,Pam Damoff. I’m glad everyone was safe but without knowing all the details lets not jump on her ” whoa is me ,I’m a woman ” campaign
Eve – but aren’t those the virtues that we hold most dear? When I see our mayor of almost eight years (and Councillor of 8 more) walk her talk and have the courage to stand out in photo-ops, special events and flag-raisings/lowerings – taking her very political life in her hands – I know that I am in Burlington and that things are unfolding in a very predictable way. Indeed, I give her all the respect that she deserves.
I think you missed the tongue in cheek when you sent this after midnight, Eve. Suggest a little nap.
THANKS but I’m well rested
