BURLINGTON, ON
A Council Chamber is where the elected officials gather to conduct the city’s business in a public setting.
The Burlington Council Chamber is so drab-looking.
When James Ridge was City Manager, major changes were made to the Council Chamber.
When compared to Council Chambers in other parts of the province, the Burlington Chamber looks like something from IKEA – done on the cheap.
Compare Burlington with some of the other cities in the province.

Drab, cheap-looking with an AV system that doesn’t work far too often.

Council Chamber before the renovation.

The Kingston, Ontario Chamber is a magnificent space.

The Oakville Council Chamber at least looks decent.

The Guelph Council Chamber leaves people feeling they have walked into an important room.

Mississauga parades its history and origin in a nicely proportioned public seating area.

In London Ontario, Councillors know the public is watching.

I’m just very glad that at that time we must have had a Council who was very careful with taxpayers’ money – as it should be. What really matters is the quality of the Councillors sitting in the seats – they alone can make the setting shine…..
I think the biggest question on the design might be – how will they fit six more Councillors in the horseshoe when Burlington finally comes to the inevitable conclusion that each Ward should be represented by two Councillors to spread the representation, workload and the risk of small cliques making major decisions with just four votes in favour?
Why is anyone surprised by the drab interior of Burlington’s Council Chambers?
Have you seen how most of the councillors dress? In many official photos, in my opinion they look like something the cat dragged in.
Well, it’s good that Mississauga has a decent council chamber at least. Mississauga city hall itself is one of least attractive city halls in Ontario. My wife and I once went to leave some material with a councillor. We were surprised, to put it mildly. The place looked more like a barn than a city hall and the barren, nondescript interior of the building was something that you might expect in Russia. It’s incredible that a city of that size and wealth has such an unattractive building for a city hall.
Personally it doesn’t matter to me….As a taxpayer, I care only about the cost! If it’s exorbitant, then we’ll know it’s not IKEA, perhaps a look-a-like super duper expensive knock off. Wouldn’t doubt that, considering how these clowns have thrown away our dollars in the past….
