Is this good community engagement ?

BURLINGTON, ON

Mayor Marianne Med Ward once said that she had 17 different platforms through she could communicate with the public.

One of those is what she calls her Mail Bag

QUESTION:

“Are there any more public engagement opportunities for the Robert Bateman H.S. Redevelopment Project coming up?”

ANSWER:

The City of Burlington is continuing its public engagement with the community to hear feedback on various aspects of the Robert Bateman H.S. Redevelopment Project, including on the facility name and on the vision for the indoor community services offered at our newest community centre.

These opportunities for engagement and input are only for the use of the inside of the building, and not about greenspace or parking. Input on greenspace and parking will come at a later date.

All of these opportunities and any updates will be posted on getinvolvedburlington.ca/bateman-highschool.

The plan appears to be to pave the sports field and use it for parking space.

The Mayor doesn’t communicate on 17 different platforms, she broadcasts.
If you post feedback she doesn’t like she blocks you.

We’ve consistently heard during these engagement meetings that parking and greenspace fall outside their current scope, with the promise of a future meeting to address these concerns. However, it’s essential that we clarify the timeline for this meeting, and when they will occur! Decisions regarding parking are currently being made without any public input or discussion, which is unnaceptable and disrespectful to our community.

They frequently reference their community engagement charter, which emphasizes the importance of implementing public feedback. When this principle is not upheld, it undermines the democratic process. We are adamant about preserving our Running track and field in its current state and exploring alternative solutions to the parking issue.

We urge immediate dialogue with the community before any final decisions are made without our input and awareness. The time to engage with us is now, to ensure our voices are heard, respected and followed in the decision-making process.

I believe that ship has sailed.
Just listen to Sharman in his comments at the council meeting on Tuesday.
      Everything is going wonderfully.
I make rude comments because I am not properly informed.
They have bigger fish to fry.

The plan is to pave the track and soccer pitch.
The CoA will decide how much needs paved for phase 1.
The are hoping a miracle happens and that they can find a way to mode shift 190 space for phase 2.
    But hope isn’t a plan
They are only wasting money by having an interim solution.
