President-Elect Donald Trump

Comments once dismissed as “trolling”, “musing” or “Trump just being Trump” have taken on more serious overtones as the U.S. president-elect persists in talking about having Canada join the United States.

After a month of what was initially waved off as “silly talk”, the narrative is creating significant anxiety among Canadians, and bemusement among the few Americans actually aware of the situation.

A cross-border study conducted by the non-profit Angus Reid Institute finds that while one-in-three Canadians (32%) believe Donald Trump is serious in his professed goal of making Canada the 51st state, most Americans – two-thirds – have paid little attention to the incoming president’s comments.

David Frum, a respected writer for The Atlantic and a former speechwriter for President Bush has said that Donald Trump will be a very predatory president, he recently returned to Canada.  Frum’s mother, Barbara was a leading CBC broadcaster.

At this point I only want to read about the First Felon attention or if it’s news of his arrest or better yet, his obituary.

The answer is both serious and his being Trump. The lesson to Canadians is beware of what you say and ask for. Trumps musings are a wake up call, to stop spending money we dont have, to stop musing about leaving our oil in the ground, to ending in country tariffs and I can go on. What we don’t want is U.S. style health care and dare I say justice system.
