It is known as the Anniversary clock and was donated to the city on its 125th.

BURLINGTON, ON

I knew the moment they started talking about the clock outside city hall that they were mistaken.

Councillor Galbraith said he thought it was a gift from one of our Sister Cites, the Mayor wasn’t sure, which one.

The clock was donated by several corporations, mostly banks, to celebrate the 125th Anniversary of Burlington.

The photograph below of the plaque at the base of the clock tells the story.

It is yards away from the flag poles the members of Council like to gather around for the photo op.

A good thing that a physical plaque was placed at the time of the clock donation to commemorate the occasion, the date, the donors and their intentions. It shows that we cannot rely on here say or the current day’s collective memory to interprete an event that happened before the present time.

  • That’s a perfect example of how ignorant our Council is on the gifts that make up Civic Square and how ill prepared they are for this discussion. As they were for their first discussion just months into their first term of office. They won’t,however, ever consider apologizing for not even bothering to read the plaques on the things in Civic Square that make it uniquely Burlington and not like every other city effort discussing what they want to go.
