BURLINGTON, ON

Burlington MP Karina Gould has a few words for her constituents:

Dear friends, I hope everyone has had a wonderful summer and while the return to school and parliament are on the horizon, I was pleased to get to spend so much time in Burlington the past couple of months. I was delighted to host my annual Seniors Symposium, welcoming over 100 seniors in Burlington to share their thoughts on issues that matter to them as well as hear from experts and engage with community partners.

Burlington MP Karina Gould on her way to the Swearing in ceremony where she was named Government House Leader in the House of Commons.

I am very pleased to confirm that the Electoral Boundaries Commission listened to the voices of Burlingtonians and will not be changing the boundaries of our riding in the next election. Good work, Burlington and thank you to all who spoke up and participated!

With inflation and affordability on everyone’s mind these days, I’m pleased to share two important initiatives from the Federal Government that helped ease the burden on households in our community: the one-time Grocery Rebate, up to $467 for a family of four that went out on July 5th  and the increase to the Canada Child Benefit that took effect on July 20th.

This year, eligible families can receive up to $7,437 per child under that age of 6. I understand these are difficult and anxious times, and while inflation is impacting the whole world, the Federal government is acting to help with the high costs of living for Canadians right now.

July also saw a job change for me! While I adored my time as Minister of Families, Children and Social Development – and couldn’t be prouder of delivering affordable childcare for Canadians – the Prime Minister has asked me to take on a new role as the Leader of the Government in the House of Commons. This will see me focused on delivering the Government’s legislative agenda and continuing to improve the lives, livelihoods and well-being of Canadians through legislation.

I hope to see you around town over the coming weeks with lots of community events in September. Please stop by to say hi and share your thoughts with me.

Karina announced earlier this year that she is pregnant with a second child – due sometime in January.

It’s clear today’s politicians seek out photo ops and tossing out $$ without any clear view on the overall well being of Canadians and the economy . I’ve sent messages to Karina Gould regarding passport issues and Chrystia Freeland / Ministry of Finance on a recent Motion to extent RIFF issues. Just crickets!!
While I suspect they are busy promoting their agenda for re election it would be nice to hear a clear response from someone.

I listened to Karina Gould being interviewed by Vassy Kapelos tonight as Gould defended the use of carbon taxes but she was “less than truthful”. She claimed that due to her government’s policies, some 52 mt of carbon emissions had been removed in Canada. But when I looked at the data, it showed that Canada had emitted 574 mt of carbon in 2015, rising to 584 mt by 2019 before dropping to 534 mt in 2020, largely as a result of reduced driving and economic activity caused by the pandemic before rising again as the economy recovered in 2021 to 545 mt. Data from 2022 is not available but with economic growth since 2021, there is no reason to expect that it is lower. So my question is–how can Gould claim there is a 52 mt decrease in carbon emissions?

Further Gould went on to claim that 90% of Canadians in provinces regulated by the federal backstop get back MORE than they pay as a result of the Climate Action Incentive. But this is clearly not true. Not only has the PBO already refuted that figure (60% is the figure used by the PBO) but for people in Burlington, they are likely paying much more in carbon taxes when you calculate not only the DIRECT carbon taxes they pay on gasoline and home heating and also the INDIRECT carbon taxes they pay in the form of higher prices.

A vote for Karina Gould is clearly a vote for the JUSTIN TRUDEAU Party of Canada. We as a country cannot withstand another 4 years of his incompetence and arrogance. Please, NO!

Karina: My granddaughter needed help with a passport/visa matter in order to study in the UK. I called the constituency office for information or assistance. I was not able to reach a real person. I was able to leave a message where I heard a message that I could expect a responce withn 72 hours or so. That was over 2 plus weeks ago. We have been in contact with the UK passport offices and they haven been very helpful and service oriented.

  • “PS Karina conveniently forgets our conversations around government service departments including municipalities ignoring legislation to the detriment of the families she loved representing. Having government (federal, provincial and municipal) administration ensure accountability processes are in place to see pensions are safe from transfer to those who have no right to them as was, and still is the federal and region issue we began tackling with Paddy Torsney, continued with Mike Wallace and then Karina without any progress being made after Paddy left office. Former MPP Cam Jackson is also aware of the issues,

This is far more important to the well-being and financial security of all Canadian families than bringing in new legislation that caregiver institutions, including government run, can with the assistance of government services, set aside. Giving them the ability of taking control of pensions and other incomes they have no right to, despite powers of attorney being properly in place. Paddy will remember the efforts she went to in order to resolve the matter but was prevented from completing the task by the loss of her seat to Mike Wallace.

Who knows perhaps Paddy will see the merit in assisting resolve this major financial security issue without a title of MP that we began together with an affected senior attending at her office, and Cam Jackson’s right after the 1997 election. The senior went to her grave without resolution, we are determined we will not.

Justin’s inability to answer questions could cost you. I don’t like PP. He may be worse than Harper, but we’re still voting a group out rather than in.

  • The two most important issues to Seniors don’t need experts to help us deal with them. They need our federal, provincial and municipal governments to act decisively on the issues repeatedly brought to their attention. Both Liberal and Conservative MPs and their governments since Paddy Torsney left office, yes believe it or not we are giving a shout out to Paddy the only Burlington MP to listen and act in a helpful manner in terms of major problems in community famiy lives.

What are these two issues: Financial Security and local health care institutions who provide the appropriate care we pay for and do not ignore infection control and other pieces of legislation put in place to protect the weakened immune system of many of our elderly.

Paddy Torsney was the only MP who attempted to work with us and have government services protect seniors rather than those who were clearly negligent in the administration of the services we rely on.

Yesterday was Anne’s 78th birthday. Next May Dave’s 80th. Time to sit back and smell the roses many say. However, we put all on notice that we will not abandon our mission statement and command that continues to drive us towards victory in our outstanding challenges “Work for the well-being of the city to which I have sent you.” Jeremiah 29:7″ We will be taking up Karina’s invitation and hopefully this time she will act on the information brought to her in the best interests of all her constituents, something she and her predecessor failed to do in the past.
