Is this rise in public interest due to a budget that will require a tax increase of just above 7% over last year?
A July budget projection is set out below. The tax increase for 2023-24 got shaved to 7.08% in the Budget books delivered to Council
Previous State of the City addresses by the Mayor have been somewhat unconventional, ‘feel good’ affairs. I hope that this address, given the difficult economic times, the generally poor performance of the business sector and the likely tax increases, will provide her proposed path through the rough waters. It would also be helpful if there was some form of report back to close the loop; a ‘here’s what I said we would do and here’s what we’ve done’.
