BURLINGTON, ON
Tourism Minister Stan Cho resigned from his cabinet post but is keeping his seat in the Legislature.
Official Opposition Leader Marit Stiles issued the following statement:
“Let’s be clear: MPP Cho’s resignation does not explain the $16,000 in hotel expenses that he racked up. This Minister was riding high, living the suite life on the taxpayer dime, and is now trying to dodge accountability because he got caught.
“Let’s not forget that former Minister Cho was not alone in his suite life adventures. PC MPPs billed taxpayers over $120,000 for their luxury hotel stays. MPP Hardeep Grewal spent nearly $30,000, Nina Tangri and Charmaine Williams also billed the taxpayer tens of thousands of dollars. Do they still have the Premier’s confidence?
“Ford’s MPPs were caught with their hands in the taxpayer’s pockets, and it’s time for some real answers.”
Following backlash over having expensed $16,000 in Toronto hotel stays despite residing in the city, Ontario’s Tourism, Culture and Gaming Minister Stan Cho has announced his resignation.

“Looking back now, I made a mistake. I am taking full responsibility, as I do not want to be a distraction from our plan to grow the economy, keep families safe, and build this province,” Cho wrote in a resignation letter, which Premier Doug Ford said he had accepted.
Cho, a Conservative MPP whose hotel expenses occurred between 2023 and 2026, resigned from cabinet but will continue to represent the riding of Willowdale. His home in the area is reportedly a 20-minute drive from Queen’s Park, or an easy transit trip.

He needs to pay the money back at a minimum. He should resign as the representative as well. He committed fraud. If you something once it’s potentially a mistake. Do it again and again is something different.
Stan Cho in his previous life, before becoming a Conservative MPP was an Auditor. Instead of resigning from his Ontario Provincial Cabinet position, imo he should have resigned from his government position entirely; and not be allowed to stay on as an independent. Ontario taxpayers should not have to pay for false expenses by any member of the Ontario Provincial Government. He should not be allowed to keep his job as an MPP.
