Now we get to hear what Lisa didn't want us to hear - figure that one out

BURLINGTON, ON

The following is what Lisa Kearns did not want media to report on:

In a Facebook message she said:

I believe so deeply in the next generation – true leaders are on the way up and I am humbled to introduce you to Matthew Walker

Matt delivered impactful and inspiring remarks at the Campaign Celebration earlier this month. Here’s an excerpt:

“We re-elect Lisa Kearns to continue to represent Ward 2, the heart of this city. Lisa is invested in making the future of Burlington a place that your kids, and grandkids can build a life in… and… hope that the heart of this city stays strong and healthy and vibrant until the next generation can move this city even farther forward.”

Matthew Walker – the speaker the Gazette was not allowed to hear.

“I am still in awe of his whole remarks, this is someone to watch, I know with certainty that he will go on to make a real difference and impact change – locally & globally.”

You will recall that Kearns invited people to a Celebration (for what wasn’t clear_ that was to take place at Freeman Station.  She spent something more than $600 in the way of campaign money.

I attended.  Five minutes later Lisa approached me and said she didn’t want me in the room.

Rather than take you through the gory, but laughable details, there is a link below.

The downside to all this is that Lisa Kearns will, in all probability, be re-elected which she may take as a mandate to continue to behave in such a poor fashion.

She will have to deal with the Integrity Commissioner, it is going to be interesting to see how that works out.

The Integrity Commissioner will do nothing until Kearns is sworn in sometime in December.

Pepper – I have to add my two cents worth here, and support Lynn’s view about the duct tape comment. Applying tape to someone’s mouth requires a degree of physical force and coercion – it is unlikely the person would submit happily to the operation. Physical force applied to another person is not acceptable. Duct tape over the mouth could also cause gagging and choking, with serious consequences.

Like your ” poobah” and the “natives are restless” comments of a couple of weeks ago, these words/idioms/expressions are dated. As languages evolve, new expressions emerge and others drop off. C’est la vie linguistique!

I attended Lisa’s campaign event. Its purpose wasn’t confusing, it was an election event, a celebration rather than a fundraiser, to pump up her supporters and thank them and urge them to get out and support her on voting day.

I am baffled about why you would think Lisa didn’t want you to hear Matthew speak. He was marvellous. My opinion is that perhaps she was fed up with the many many rather nasty “articles” directed at her which were by that time seeming to be a personal vendetta. The “duct tape her mouth” remark was quite likely the final straw. Incredibly, this comment has been made a second time a few days ago. This is not an acceptable thing to say.

I’m confused about why you say it’s a downside that she will be re-elected, only days after you endorsed her as the best candidate for Ward 2. I think you owe her an apology on the duct tape remarks and the piling on of articles attacking her. I’m very glad she won last night, but certainly it wasn’t a surprise.

Editor’s note: We did not endorse Lisa Kearns. We did say she had a very good brain – well you read the article so I don’t have to say much more. Why you are getting as riled up over the duct tape comment – confounds me. This is politically correct jabber jabber that seems to have taken over too many people in this city.

Re editor’s note: But this was your headline on an article on October 22: “Gazette choices for Council are Radway in ward 1; Kearns ward 2; Hounslow ward 3; Stolte in ward 4, Sharman ward 5 and Greenspoon in ward 6.”

(Wish that had been the outcome).
