Shooting takes place outside the Burlington Centre: victim pronounced dead

Halton Regional Police have released the name of the person shot in the Burlington Centre parking lot last night.

Halton Regional Police confirmed 24-year-old Burlington resident Omer Niaz Muhammad, also known as rapper Lil OT, was killed last night in a shooting in the parking lot of Kelsey’s at Burlington Centre.

The parking lot at the rear of Kelsey’s restaurant is part of the Burlington Central parking lot.

Muhammad, who has released two albums since 2023, has more than 27,000 followers on Instagram. He had previously survived a drive-by shooting in 2023.

In a press conference Tuesday morning, Constable Jeff Dillon said police believe the shooting was targeted.

Omer Niaz Muhammad was pronounced dead at the Joseph Brant Hospital.

    If the individuals are caught they will be out on bail in 24 hours, even if repeat offenders, as a result of liberal soft on crime legislation from 2017. Carney has had a year to reverse this legislation and has done nothing about it. It’s been a big issue across the country and now making its way to Burlington.

    It will be interesting to find out if the perpetrators were out on bail.

    I think that the shooting occurred behind the 711 and the dental office in the small strip mall adjacent to the Burlington Centre.

    Last week there was a “smash and grab” incident that happened in the pawn shop near the LCBO at 5:30pm at the Longo’s Plaza on Fairview.

    For those of us living in that area this is too close for comfort. To date there has been no indication that the people responsible for these incidents have been caught.
