Snow Event declared by the City - could have been described as wonderful winter weather

BURLINGTON, ON

The City of Burlington has declared a Snow Event for January 11th.

With that statement, crews of private contractors get their equipment ready to take to the streets and begin cleaning up.  It’s all business – keep the public happy.

The evergreens stand majestically collecting snowflakes.

There may come a time when these trees can be decked out with Christmas lights.

No suggestion from the city that this is a great time to get out and enjoy the snow; let the kids toboggan – get out into the country and snowshoe, find a quiet place in the countryside, and watch how the animals handle the change in the weather.

Not sure yet if the snow we get will be the kind you can make snowmen (or snowwomen) out of.

Reality: When a Snow Event is in place, there is no on-street parking. Vehicles left on the street will be ticketed or towed.

  • A snow event! It was barely an inch of snow. Ridiculous. Surprised the school buses ran.

With climate change we generally get less snow than we used to. In the olden days of my youth I remember the weather forecaster during winter just saying we were going to get a little snow overnight or maybe there was going to be a snow storm if we were going to get over six inches (15 cm today). It was winter – we expected snow. Today it seems that Burlington has an official “Event” whenever we might get 5 centimetres. Times have certainly changed.

Our city has become so woke- a Snow Event. Really.

Remember when it was called a snow storm?

Guess “storm” is too negative a word.

What a ridiculous time we are living in.

Yes the sidewalk plow just rattled down the clear sidewalks on my street on Saturday probably on overtime rates. What a costly farce.
