BURLINGTON, ON

City Council this morning voted unanimously to stop funding the Sound of Music.

They did agree to provide up to $150,000 to any group that chose to come forward with a plan to revive the event.

It was a pretty swift vote – not a word from any member of Council, no comments either.

I applaud Council’s decision. Time to go “back to the drawing board”. There’s definitely a place in my opinion for a music festival in Burlington, but it doesn’t have to the biggest, free one in Canada or held exclusively in Spencer Smith Park. The outdoor jazz concerts at BPAC in August are a huge draw and may provide some insight into how a collection of smaller, musical genre-focused concerts might seed a financially sustainable option. Let’s take the time to get it right!

Finally a good cost saving decision from this free~spending City.
Hopefully more will come with elections on the horizon.
I wouldn’t buy a like to see a modest music festival with different music each day.Jazz—Bluegrass-Country for example.

I cannot believe the council made this decision. This is a major event in Burlington and I am sure it brings $$$ to the local businesses including hotels.
This council spends $$$’s on many other projects that are not as important (to my mind)
