BURLINGTON, ON

Ward 6 Councillor Angelo Bentivegna released the following statement:

Ward 6 Councillor Angelo Bentivegna.

“In December 2025, the Provincial Land Development Facilitator concluded their involvement in discussions between Argo and the City concerning the future of the Millcroft Golf Course lands.

“Following that transition, and consistent with the direction provided to our CAO, he continued direct conversations with Argo’s representatives to explore whether there was a path for the City to acquire some or all the golf course lands in the public interest.

“Most recently, the city formalized that interest in writing, advising Argo that the City would be prepared to purchase the lands for $15 million, approximately three times the amount reportedly paid for the property in 2020. This offer reflected a serious and good-faith effort to secure these lands for the community.

“The City has since been informed that Argo is not prepared to sell its lands to the City.

“While that response is disappointing, it is important that we understand the steps that have been taken and the City’s willingness to pursue acquisition at a significant premium. Further information, including supporting materials to assist with public communication, will be provided to Council in upcoming updates.

“As Ward 6 Councillor, I remain committed to keeping our community informed and to continuing to advocate for outcomes that protect the long-term interests of Millcroft residents and the City as a whole.”

Will this be enough for Bentivegna to keep his seat in the October municipal election?

I thought real estate matters were confidential.
    Has Angelo jumped the gun?

I wonder how residents of the other communities in Burlington would feel about the City’s offer, particularly given the quantum of property tax increases over the last three years.

Absolutely! Angelo works tirelessly for his constituents. Angelo dos what is right and not because an election is coming or not.

Let’s hope not. Anyone who watched the council meeting last Monday for example should really hope not too. Watch the video and see him in action, thanking the mayor for using strong mayor powers to help the poor developers. Listen to the questions and comments. Brutal. Time for some diversity and new faces.

Really, what about the other 5 wards????

The ask ” will this be enough for Bentivegna to keep his seat in the October municipal election”?

My response would be it is time for him to go. Looks like a vote grab to me.

It seems to be no problem for our mayor and some councillors to spend taxpayer dollars without any resident input. Did anyone know about this prior to Argo’s refusal to sell?

Where was the money going to come from? There is just so much money in the Reserve Funds that can be” borrowed” from to use for things like this or the proposed freeze of developers fees.

It is interesting that the Mayor and Councillor Bentivegna would be willing to “save some or all the golf course lands in the public interest” but have done nothing to try to save areas of the downtown like the area known as the football to save our waterfront.

How did the city have the authority to propose to Argo “that the city would be prepared to offer $15,000,000.00 to purchase this land?

Did the entire council know about this or does this fall under the strong mayor powers?

Wonder how the “spin” would have been if Argo had agreed to sell?
