BURLINGTON, ON
The Joseph Brant Hospital released its annual report today.
We are going to give you the numbers part today and in the days that follow, we will focus in on some of the departments and the way they operate.
It is truly a remarkable collection of stories – do they get it right every time – they don’t and they point out what has to be changed.
Mental Health, Palliative Care, Professional Development, and Navigating the different sources of information are all included in an extensive document.
The one thing they come back to is the incredible support they get from the community.
For today – the numbers.

I will tell you what Joseph Brant doesn’t spend money on but should – updating its computer system.
Do you know that 80% of all work is done manually. The only department that presently connects to the EPIC system in Hamilton is The Breast Cancer Clinic. Everything else has to be done manually.
Joseph Brant recently posted on instagram that it had finally decided to purchase the EPIC computer program ( years after Hamilton). No mention of when it will be up and running.
My question is when will this system be up and running which would connect it to “hospitals, clinics and other healthcare providers, and also integrates with external systems like patient portals (My Chart)”?
My guess is that it will take years to complete the integration of this system.
In this day and age this hospital is decades behind in providing quick up to date flow of information not only to other institutions but also internally.
