BURLINGTON, ON
Interesting how different Members of Parliament interact with their constituents.
Several MP’s in other communities are running advertisements asking for people to suggest names for people who could become recipients of the King’s Medal.
Every Member of Parliament is allocated a number of medals to hand out.
The Gazette isn’t seeing anything from the three MP’s that serve the community. Karina Gould, Pam Damoff and Mark van K make a big deal out of the handing out of the medals – but not much, so far on who the recipients are chosen.
The first time l saw an ad for the Kings medal it was in the Bay Observer just before the deadline. Like the numerous other decisions made by the politicians in burlington, the constituents are the last to know. Could it be the “fix” was already in? Although Mr Burgess was a fitting choice, no shade for him as he has contributed alot to Burlington. Who will the others be?
Adam van Koeverden is our North Burlington (Milton) MP – who (coincidentally) represented Canada at four Summer Olympic Games – winning one gold, two silvers and a bronze and was the flag bearer for Canada in Athens and Beijing.
Here are some local athletes who were going for a medal at this years Olympics – and maybe some or all may qualify for the King’s Medal (even if they didn’t come back with French hardware):
Will Jones, Aldershot, in sailing
Adam Dong, Burlington, in badminton
Ella Jansen, Burlington, in swimming
Simon McTavish, Oakville, in canoe/kayak sprint
Kayla Alexander, Milton, in women’s basketball
Michael Foley, Milton, in cycling
Always handed out to loyal subjects who happen to support the Party.
