Oink oink. As I have stated numerous times, Burlington needs to clean house and elect a “War Time” Council. Very tone deaf sending that many people to Holland. Maybe just send one person. Forget the boondoggle legacy projects like the Brock U. facility that is costing in excess of $100,000,000 to taxpayers. We need a Mayor and Councillors that minds taxpayer money especially after hiking taxes these last years during our affordability challenges. When will we ever learn Burlington?

I read that the federal government sponsored about 20 surviving veterans to attend. If our elected politicians worked responsibly a modest donation to that cause would be far more meaningful. If all Canadian cities followed Burlington’s approach how many thousands would be attending. Our elected politicians are a disgrace.

Editor’s note: I have to take exception to this comment.
So the federal government sponsored about 20 surviving veterans – that 20 may be all we have left. Mr Gamble seems to have missed those photographs showing those men rushing out of a landing craft on to the beaches to be cut down by Nazi gun fire.

If your tax money is being used to send those men to the event – be proud that your money is being put to a decent use. Stop disgracing yourself with this idle chatter.

Why is the guru of climate change bs ,Rory Nisan attending?

Where are these funds coming from and is it necessary to send so many to represent Burlington Ontario

      Reader comment:
The funds like all money spent by this council, irrespective of whether it came via muni taxes, the Feds or the Province, comes from the pocket books of you and me and every other taxpayer.
Most of us fund our mundialization (world citizen trips) from whats left of our after tax money, after rent, food, clothing etc.

The mayor only would have been sufficient. This expense is completely unnecessary. My Father who was there (Lake Superior Regiment (Motor)) in 1944/45 would not support this trip.

If you want to see the world on the taxpayers back get a job with the city or get yourself elected. Why is the City Clerk going? The position is essentially the records keeper for the municipality. Just another waste of our money.

Six, why not 12? In these economic times. My grandfathers, dad and 6 uncles fought in WWII.
There is no justification for this. All of them would be rolling in their graves if they paid taxes in Burlington.
We must vote this council out.

Didn’t Rory attend an event in Japan this year too, or am I
    mistaken?

Council has its perks! Wonder if he’ll miss another council meeting.

Our mayor certainly has been collecting travel points this year. Washington, Holland…..wonder what’s next?
