BURLINGTON, ON

At the start of each city council meeting the Mayor reads out a notice explaining to people what to do in the event of an emergency.

On occasion he explains to the public sitting in the gallery that they are not to engage in any form of demonstration.

At one point in the Monday evening meeting at which a particularly devise issue was being debated he told the audience there was to be no booing, no hissing and no laughing.

At the beginning of the Council meeting the Mayor took a few minutes to present proclamations to people.

Goldring and Diabetes recipient

The Mayor reading out and then presenting a proclamation to a representative from Diabetes Canada. Applause followed.

As he handed over the proclamation to the representative from Diabetes Canada and then moved beside the woman for the photo ops that he so thoroughly enjoys the audience broke into applause.

Not a word from the Mayor on what is allowed and what is allowed and not allowed to do in the Council chamber.

The hypocrisy, the audacity – the plain cheek of the man. He diminishes the office he holds and comes across as a bit of a fool.

The mayor does love his photos ops. Check out the 3rd image in the article’s photo gallery: https://www.insidehalton.com/news-story/3067954-construction-starting-on-new-medical-centre/

Our mayor was participating in a photo-op with the same Carriage Gate for the Berkeley development. The article was dated May 13, 2013. A little after that, Carnicelli reneged on his Section 37 community benefits commitments. The city had bungled by not getting the developer to sign the agreement back in 2010 when it was first approved.

Really bad judgement on Goldring’s part to endorse the project even as the city was working to get the developer to honour his commitments. The mayor was paraphrased as saying, “the project is triple win for the city as it brings more jobs, residential spaces and parking to the downtown core.”

We’ll see if the parking garage and medical building ever get built.

Is this news or an opinion? Calling the Mayor a fool does not create a lot of confidence in your paper, especially for something as small as this. Your coverage of the school closings was wonderful and Drew me to your articles. This is disappointing.

You might want to be careful Laura. With comments like that, you just might get a condescending email trying to “educate” you on what is news and what constitutes an opinion piece. 🙂

The more confusing thing about the Mayor’s performance at last night’s Council meeting was after all his instructions on behaviour and 2ce telling the audience to be more respectful, he did not utter a word to the final delegator, Nick Carnicelli of Carriage Gate Homes (the developer of the property in question last night, 421 Brant St) when Carnicelli verbally derided a previous delegator’s presentation.

Carnicelli also danced around the question on inclusion of any affordable units in the development. He will probably do a 180 on this issue at 421 Brant the same way he did at the Caroline/John/Maria/Elizabeth property, once the hole had been dug, essentially holding the City hostage to agree to his change of plans.

Very unprofessional behaviour on both men’s parts, and clearly shows where the Mayor’s loyalties lie.

There are exceptions to every rule, especially for someone exceptional.Obviously the Editor has an issue with the current Mayor.
