Thank you for your response Maggie. Yes it is your money for your campaign. However, there is a lot of work which the general public does not see and adding a single name to a ballot does increase the time required to make everything run flawlessly, which does indeed take taxpayers dollars. (I do not work for the city or any government.) I don’t think you are less serious or less capable by waiting to register until the last day. But, when running for city council, it is my opinion that you need more than 6 weeks to get your name and message out there for the voters to get to know you. This is just my opinion.
To the voters in Ward 1, please get out and vote and please encourage your friends and neighbours to vote as well.

    • Just to clarify my earlier comment. My deep pockets comments was referring to Mayor. I am in Ward 6 and we have 7 challengers last time I checked. There is a very good reason for so many challengers. That would be the current person holding the seat.

I commend anyone will to run for a Ward Councillor seat and putting their own money, time and sweat into getting the message out.

      Good Luck to you Maggie!

Good Luck Jennifer in Ward 6. I don’t know Maggie, but have met Jennifer and spoken with her often post the August 4 flood. What an amazing genuine human being. Being a person first, and not being a pawn in politics is key to success.

May this election garner the turnout that it truly needs. Burlington needs a change.

First of all I was under the impression that it would be my money, not the tax payers(of which I am one) that would fund my campaign. Secondly, what makes me a less serious contender just because I have taken the time to seriously consider my decision. I am an intelligent women who often sees things in unique ways which I believe can be beneficial to the ward, the city and the region. I am no less a serious candidate than the others

To start a campaign this late in the election is a waste of tax payer money. If you want a change in Ward 1 , as most of us do ,get behind a serious challenger and help them. Otherwise your just spliting the vote and we in Ward 1 will end up with the same councillor who does what’s best for him and not the community, the city and the region.

And one thing I don’t have is deep pockets

  • Maggie

Hope ward I feels the same way. I plan to file papers in the morning.

  • So happy the deep pockets of RIck Goldring will be challenged.

We have a do nothing City Hall. Time for a real change!
