Marshield Radiation Protection and Storage Products

Shipway Quality Stairs & Railings

The Chamber of Commerce decided this year to create sub-categories in both retail and manufacturing; those with more than 25 employees and those with under 25.

Winner (25 or more employees)

APEX Composites Inc.

Acknowledging the presence of his bankers in the audience, President Jerry Kavanaugh noted that strong and rapid growth of such a unique company can have both advantages and disadvantages.  Meeting the precise composite structure designs for the sophisticated aerospace and defence industry has enabled this company to grow.  But rapid growth also puts financial strains on any company and to date Apex has been able to meet both demands, although it has been challenging.

Winner (Fewer than 25 employees)

Marshield Radiation Protection and Storage Products

Owner Kevin Milne was somewhat nostalgic when accepting this award as he recalled receiving the outstanding export achievement award over 15 years ago. Producing a unique line of products that include lead shields, lead aprons and lead-lined cabinets has enabled this company to service a niche corner of the marketplace.  Providing safety from radiation in either the nuclear or medical industry has enabled this division of the Mars Metal Company to supply clients not only in North America, but also in selected international accounts.  The type of products that they produce are far too numerous to mention here, but be assured that where there is radiation, this company will produce a product to keep it intact.

Throat Threads Apparel

The charms of Milan and the excitement of New York city to say nothing of the lure of Paris was not enough to tempt the Throats Threads to move out-of-town.

Travelling to such exotic locations like New York, Paris and Milan searching for the next unique and exciting  fashion line has never tempted founder Russ Fearon  to pick up roots and leave Burlington. Founded in 1993, this company has experienced fast growth by gaining distribution rights for a number of recognizable international brands such as Ping, Tommy Hilfiger and Swiss Army brands.  Concentrating on a strong sales component and backed by a vigorous public relations divisions is key to the continued growth of this company.

Winner (Fewer than 25 Employees)

UPS Store#89

An ebullient Gino Furgivele literally bounced onto the stage when he was announced as the recipient of this award. Stressing that service is a strong component of his business, he urged the attendees to come and use his facilities.
