BURLINGTON, ON
Has the creation and declaration of Proclamations by the Mayor gotten out of hand?
At the city Council meeting last Monday the mayor issued 20 proclamations and Declared that a specific day was being named as the day to celebrate whatever was being celebrated.
Eight of the proclamations were for events that had already passed.
Are these proclamations not “photo-ops” – part of the process of keeping your name before the public?
Should politicians not be known, recognized and rewarded for the quality of the work they do?
Councillors Marianne Meed Ward and Blair Lancaster don’t do coffee all that often but they deserve gallons of credit for the way they joined forces and made sure that the Freeman station for to stay alive. They made that happen.
Here is what our Mayor read out at Council Monday evening. You decide.

My understanding is that the group behind this are the anti abortionists who stand on the road screaming “I want to live”, insert horrific aborted fetuses into magazines being delivered. I saw and heard them just the other day. All of these things have happened in Burlington or Hamilton within the past two weeks.
Spiritual and Religious Care Awareness Week – October 17-23, 2016
Is there not a separation of Church and State in Burlington?
It might be wise to vet groups wanting a day proclaimed better!!!!
Hey, what about Mond Day, Tues Day, Weds Day…. you get my drift. Proclamation overload that in the end everyone just tunes them out.
There are a number municipalities that do not make proclamations. Standard policy.
I am not sure why the Friends of Freeman Station was mentioned in this article. We have a great working relationship with the City of Burlington even though the burraucracy can be frustrating at times.
To date we have raised over $370,000 of which the City has contributed $45,000, of which $20,000 was set aside for the demolition of the station. The other $325,000 has been raised from corporate and private donors. The City still owns the station. The Friends of Freeman will continue to restore and operate the station for the benefit of residences of Burlington. Please see our website http://www.freemanstation.ca
Lets hope that the next election day will be vote out the Mayor and council day!
surprised there isn’t Mayor Goldring Day!! Can’t believe that tax payers will have to fork out for Freeman Station when some of our roads are a mess.
