BURLINGTON, ON.
They are at it again.
The graphics on the email certainly look real enough. Anyone doing business with the CIBC might well be fooled enough to click on the link that they say you need to use to ensure that your account card is not de-activated.
It’s a hoax – we got the message – but we don’t have an account with CIBC.
There are some people who will respond to this – and they will give out personal details – that’s where the problem begins.
Are we not close to the point where there can be some form of policing to handle stuff like this?
I reported this to CIBC 2 weeks ago….I keep getting the spam email and I am not a CIBC client!!

All financial institutions have, at one time or another, told their customers that they will never request personal or account information by email. However, people forget. The banks should start a regular regimen of reminders to the point where their clients say “enough, I get it”. Policing of these “phishing” and identity theft schemes is always after the fact. The best defence is an informed consumer and, frankly, in this day and age there is little excuse for customer ignorance.
