Dear Pria it is more than a matter of structural engineering. The current structure of Frank Hayden high school on highway 5 or Dundas Street is already structurally overloaded at the current 129% capacity. Check it out for yourselves. View the 12 portables, the traffic in ithe morning, the taking over of the public library by high school students to eat their lunch, the classes in the hallways, etc.,etc.

The structural chaos will get worse. We need to rid ourselves of the HDSB Trustees that voted to close or poorly supported two Burlington high schools.

Hi Florida George – Yes, I know all about the issues at Hayden. I was responding specifically to Sharon’s comment about MM and Nelson and their ability to structually handle additions.

  • Sharon

The HDSB should be thanking Ontario taxpayers! This money should be used on students learning not for somewhat replicating what already exists. What is the Board going to do if they find out MMR and/or Nelson can’t structurally handle additions?

    • Pria

Huh? Why on earth would the buildings not be able to handle additions? What would lead you to believe that would even be a concern? I’ve never heard of that. Besides, pretty sure the STRUCTUAL ENGINEERS would have looked into that.

I had great difficulty reading this article because of the “stink” of the wrongful decisions by the HDSB Trustees to close two Burlington high schools.

The ongoing support mentioned by the Chair of HDSB Trustees (who voted to close both high schools) is the multi millions in taxation support support that is foisted upon the Burlington Taxpayers who are now stuck to pay for the foolishness in closing the 2nd and 3rd newest high schools in Burlington and overloading others to the tune of 151%.

Burlington citizens please consider your vote carefully come this October when municipal elections are scheduled.
